Paint & Layer Analysis

Paint and pigment analysis is a specialist scientific process carried out by conservators, this can assist in the identification of paint layers and original colour schemes. Our examination of paint by sectioning and examining in cross section, allows details of individual layers and pigments to be identified.  Examination of paint is performed using optical microscopy and Fluorescence Microscope for the analysis of gilt surfaces and paints.
